-Intro to Nose Work – 

“Let the game begin” This class is an introduction to the new exciting sport/activity of Nose Work.  In this class we will teach the dog how to play the game. The primary goal is to have fun! This is when dogs get to be dogs. We will focus on building their natural hunting skills using their love of food treats (or toys) in a box. Each week we will add more challenging puzzles which in turn builds confidence  – all using boxes and the amazing ability of your dog’s nose.

PREREQUISITE: Dog must be at least 6 months old

Length: 8 weeks plus make-up class

-Intro to Odor –

This class is an introduction to the next level of the exciting new sport/activity of Nose Work. In this class we will focus on teaching the dogs to search for a specific “target odor.”  The first target odor will be the essential oil of “birch” and we will achieve this by pairing odor with treats (or toys) in and out of boxes. We will be expanding the dog’s hunting skills, along with the handlers learning to recognize the “change of behavioral” in the dogs as they search for the source of the odor.

PREREQUISITE:  Dogs must have completed the Introduction to Nose Work Class or at the discretion of the instructor

Length: 6 weeks

-Level 1 -

This class we will be fine tuning the dogs hunting skills along with building handles skills. We will focus on hide placement and search areas – Interiors, exteriors, container and vehicles.

PREREQUISITE:  Dogs must have completed the Introduction to Odor or at the discretion of the instructor

Length: 6 weeks

 

 -Continue Nose Work – 

This class we will continue expanding on dogs/handler skills and teamwork as we add other “target odors” and multiple hides. We will venture to new searching environments, adding more challenges including distractions. This is an on going class - whether it is only just for fun or preparation for competition we will continue searching and have fun!

PREREQUISITE Dogs must have completed Level 1 or at the discretion of the instructor

-ORT Drills -

This class will be in preparation for the “Odor Recognition Test” – which is the first step to NACSW K9 Nose Work competition. This class will focus on the box search pattern as to the official ORT test.

PREREQUISITE:  Dogs must have completed the Introduction to Odor or at the discretion of the instructor
